Sony 55mm f1.8 Zeiss for hire

About this kit

The Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA is a small, light, Zeiss-branded standard prime. It suits street and travel photography, half-length portraits, documentary stills and simple interview set-ups, and it's the lens to carry when you want sharp results without bulk.

At under 300g it barely registers on the camera and balances easily on a gimbal. It's sharp from f/1.8, with strong contrast, and the 55mm view is a touch tighter than a 50mm. The limits are worth knowing: closest focus is about 0.5m, so it isn't one for small product details, and it has no aperture ring or lens stabilisation, so aperture is set from the camera and stabilisation comes from the in-body system.

It fits all our E-mount bodies; on the Sony A7R V or Sony A7 IV it makes a light stills kit, and on the Sony FX3 it's an easy gimbal lens on the Ronin RS 5 Combo or Ronin RS3 Pro. For lower light or shallower depth of field, step up to the Sony 50mm f1.2. It takes 49mm filters.

Questions people ask

What's included with each item?
It's listed on the item page under "in the case" — batteries, cards, chargers, cages and cases where they come with the kit. If something you need is not listed, add it from Accessories or ask.
Can I extend while the kit is out?
Yes, if nobody else has it booked — message us before your return date and we update the booking and the invoice. The earlier you ask, the more likely the answer is yes.
What if something gets damaged?
Minor wear is expected and never charged. Accidental damage is covered by your hire agreement: you are responsible for the kit while it is with you, and significant damage is charged at the repair or replacement cost.
