About this kit
The Sony FE 2.0x Teleconverter (SEL20TC) doubles the focal length of a compatible Sony telephoto, at the cost of two stops of light. A 300mm f/2.8 becomes a 600mm f/5.6, and a 70-200mm f/2.8 becomes a 140-400mm f/5.6. It's for wildlife, birds, aviation and distant sport, when even a long lens isn't long enough.
Autofocus, aperture control and the lens's stabilisation carry on working, but two stops is a real cost. Focus slows in poor light, and you'll want good daylight or a fast lens to start from, which is why it makes most sense on the f/2.8 lenses. Like the Sony 1.4x Teleconverter, it only fits Sony lenses with a deeply recessed rear element, so it won't go on standard zooms or most primes, and it isn't supported on third-party lenses.
On our shelf it fits the Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens and Sony 70-200mm f2.8 II, plus the Sony 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 (200-800mm f/9-11) and Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens (400-1200mm f/11-13) in bright light. Use it on the Sony A9 III, Sony A1 II or Sony A7R V, ideally on the Manfrotto XPRO 5-Section Aluminum Monopod. If you only need a little more reach, the 1.4x costs one stop instead of two.

Questions people ask
- What's included with each item?
- It's listed on the item page under "in the case" — batteries, cards, chargers, cages and cases where they come with the kit. If something you need is not listed, add it from Accessories or ask.
- Can I extend while the kit is out?
- Yes, if nobody else has it booked — message us before your return date and we update the booking and the invoice. The earlier you ask, the more likely the answer is yes.
- What if something gets damaged?
- Minor wear is expected and never charged. Accidental damage is covered by your hire agreement: you are responsible for the kit while it is with you, and significant damage is charged at the repair or replacement cost.
