Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS for hire

About this kit

This is Sony's FE 100-400mm G Master telephoto zoom with optical stabilisation, f/4.5 at the wide end. We hire it for wildlife and birds, motorsport, field sports and airshows, and for any subject you can't get close to, from the far touchline to the other side of a lake.

The lens stabilisation works with the in-body system on our Alpha bodies for steady handheld framing at the long end, and it also steadies the picture on the Sony FX6, which has no in-body stabilisation. Autofocus is fast and quiet enough for video as well as stills. It's a big lens, so for long sessions put it on a monopod rather than holding it all day. Light is the thing to watch: at 400mm in poor conditions, you'll be raising ISO to keep shutter speeds up.

It works on every E-mount body we hire: the Sony A9 III or Sony A1 II for fast action, the Sony A7R V when you want room to crop, and the Sony FX6 or Sony FX3 for video. Pair it with the Manfrotto XPRO 5-Section Aluminum Monopod, or the Sirui SQ75 Carbon Fiber Video Tripod for locked-off shots. Add the Sony 70-200mm f2.8 II on a second body to cover closer action.

Questions people ask

What's included with each item?
It's listed on the item page under "in the case" — batteries, cards, chargers, cages and cases where they come with the kit. If something you need is not listed, add it from Accessories or ask.
Can I extend while the kit is out?
Yes, if nobody else has it booked — message us before your return date and we update the booking and the invoice. The earlier you ask, the more likely the answer is yes.
What if something gets damaged?
Minor wear is expected and never charged. Accidental damage is covered by your hire agreement: you are responsible for the kit while it is with you, and significant damage is charged at the repair or replacement cost.
