About this kit
The Sony A9 III is the first full-frame mirrorless camera with a global-shutter sensor. The whole 24.6MP frame is read at once, so golf swings, propellers and fast pans don't skew, in stills or video. It's built for sport, motorsport, action and fast-moving events, and for flash work that needs very short shutter speeds.
It shoots up to 120 frames a second with no viewfinder blackout, and Pre-Capture saves up to a second of frames before the full press. Flash syncs at any shutter speed up to 1/80,000s, which makes overpowering daylight much easier, though flash output drops at the very shortest speeds. Autofocus uses AI-based subject recognition, and stabilisation is rated to 8 stops. The trade-off is image quality: base ISO is 250 and files are up to a stop behind a conventional full-frame sensor, so for controlled studio or landscape stills another body will give cleaner results.
It's E-mount, with two slots that each take CFexpress Type A or SD, and it runs on NP-FZ100 batteries. Battery life is modest, so add spare Sony NPZ 100 Batteries. For the sideline we'd pair it with the Sony 70-200mm f2.8 II or the Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens, and a Manfrotto XPRO 5-Section Aluminum Monopod to take the weight.
