About this kit

The Insta360 X5 is a pocket-sized 360-degree camera. Two back-to-back lenses record the whole scene at once, at up to 8K 30fps, and you choose the framing afterwards in the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio. We hire it for action and sports POV, travel and vlog content, behind-the-scenes coverage and property walkthroughs: any shoot where you can't be sure where the moment will happen.

On a job, you press record and frame later. FlowState stabilisation and 360-degree horizon lock keep footage level on a bike, a helmet or a moving car, and a straight selfie stick held in line with the camera drops out of the stitched image. The 1/1.28-inch sensors and PureVideo low-light mode help indoors and at dusk, and it's waterproof to 15 metres without a housing. The honest caveat: 8K is spread around the whole sphere, so a reframed 16:9 shot is softer than the headline figure suggests, and it looks best in good light.

It records to microSD (use a fast V30-rated card) and charges over USB-C, so a Power Bank keeps it topped up through a long day. 360 files are large, and an SSD Drive makes offloading on location quicker. Reframing happens in the edit, so allow time for it in post.
