The Canon EOS R5 is a 45-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera with detail to spare for portrait, wedding, product, landscape and editorial work. Its strengths lean towards stills, but it also records 8K RAW internally, so it suits photographers who are asked for video on the same job, or anyone who wants a high-resolution B-camera.

In use, the 45MP files leave real room to crop, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with eye, face and animal detection holds focus on moving subjects. In-body stabilisation works with stabilised lenses for slower handheld shutter speeds, and 4K runs up to 120p for slow motion. The thing to plan around is heat: this first-generation R5 has recording-time limits in 8K and in its oversampled 4K HQ mode, so for long interviews or full-day events, standard 4K is the safer setting.

It's an RF-mount body with one CFexpress Type B slot and one UHS-II SD slot, and it runs on Canon's LP-E6 series batteries, including the newer LP-E6P. If you're bringing EF lenses, they fit via Canon's EF-EOS R adapter. Pair it with the Canon RF 24-70mm for general coverage, the Canon RF 70-200mm for portraits and ceremonies, the Godox V1 Flash Pro (Canon) and spare Canon LP-E6P Batteries.
