About this kit

The GoPro HERO12 Black is a small, waterproof action camera for positions where a bigger camera is impractical or would be at risk: helmets, handlebars, car bodywork, boards and awkward corners of a set. We hire it for sport, travel, automotive and behind-the-scenes work, and as a crash camera on larger productions.

It records up to 5.3K at 60fps and 4K at 120fps, and its 8:7 mode captures a taller frame so you can crop horizontal and vertical versions from one clip. HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilisation copes well with rough mounts, and GP-Log gives a flatter 10-bit image for matching other cameras in the grade. It's waterproof to 10 metres without a housing. The thing to plan for is power: one battery won't cover a long day of continuous recording at high resolution, so bring a power bank or plan battery swaps. There's also no GPS on this model, so speed and location overlays aren't an option.

It has GoPro's fold-out mounting fingers plus a standard 1/4-inch thread on the base, records to microSD and charges over USB-C. Pair it with the Magic Arm or the Manfrotto Variable Friction Arm + Super Clamp for rigging in cars and on set, the Handheld Tripod for walk-and-talk shots, and a Power Bank.
